Do I need an appointment to visit or test drive a vehicle?
No appointment is required — walk-ins are always welcome during sales hours. That said, we recommend making an appointment if you have a specific vehicle in mind. Booking ahead lets us confirm the vehicle is still available, pull it from the lot, have it cleaned and fueled, and pair you with a product specialist so you are not waiting. You can request an appointment by phone or through any vehicle listing on our website.
Is Mazda of Fort Myers a factory-authorized Mazda dealer?
Yes. Mazda of Fort Myers is a franchised, factory-authorized Mazda dealership and part of Morgan Automotive Group. That means we sell new Mazda vehicles with the full factory warranty, we are authorized to perform Mazda warranty and recall work, our technicians are factory-trained on Mazda vehicles, and we stock Genuine Mazda Parts. It also means we can certify eligible vehicles through the Mazda Certified Pre-Owned program.
Shopping & Buying
What vehicles do you sell?
We sell the full new Mazda lineup along with a rotating selection of Mazda Certified Pre-Owned vehicles and used vehicles from other manufacturers. The current new Mazda lineup includes the Mazda3 sedan and hatchback, CX-30, CX-5, CX-50 and CX-50 Hybrid, CX-70 and CX-70 PHEV, CX-90 and CX-90 PHEV, and the MX-5 Miata and MX-5 Miata RF. Inventory changes daily, so the most accurate list is our online New Vehicles and Pre-Owned search pages.
Can I buy a car online and have it delivered?
Yes. Our online car-buying tools let you handle most of the process from home: estimate monthly payments, apply for credit, get a value for your trade-in, and arrange home delivery. Most customers use a hybrid approach — they complete the numbers and credit application online, then come in for a short test drive and to sign. If you would rather do everything remotely, tell your sales consultant and we will structure the deal that way.
What should I bring with me to buy a car?
Plan to bring a valid driver's license, proof of current auto insurance, and a form of payment for your down payment. If you are financing, bring recent pay stubs or proof of income and proof of residence, since some lenders ask for them. If you are trading a vehicle in, bring the title (or your lender's information if there is still a loan on it), the registration, and all sets of keys and remotes. Having those in hand is the single biggest thing that shortens time in the finance office.
Pricing, Fees & Florida Taxes
How much is sales tax on a car in Fort Myers, Florida?
Florida charges a 6% state sales tax on motor vehicle purchases. Lee County adds a 0.5% discretionary sales surtax, but Florida law applies county surtax only to the first $5,000 of the purchase price — so the county portion is capped at about $25 on a vehicle. On a $40,000 vehicle, that works out to roughly $2,400 in state tax plus $25 in county surtax. Tax is calculated on the sale price after your trade-in allowance is deducted. Rates are set by the state and county, not by the dealership.
What is the dealer fee, and what other charges appear on the buyer's order?
A dealer fee (also called a pre-delivery service charge or documentary fee) covers costs such as inspecting, cleaning and adjusting the vehicle and preparing the sale documents. Florida does not cap this fee, but state law requires it to be clearly disclosed on the buyer's order — and it is negotiable as part of the overall deal. Beyond the vehicle price, you can expect to see state sales tax and county surtax, Florida title and registration fees, and the manufacturer's destination charge on a new vehicle. Ask us for a written out-the-door figure and we will itemize every line for you.
Can you give me an out-the-door price?
Yes, and we encourage it. An out-the-door price is the single number that matters: vehicle price, plus dealer fee, plus Florida sales tax and Lee County surtax, plus tag, title and registration, plus destination charge on a new vehicle, minus any rebates and your trade-in allowance. Request one by phone, email or in person on any specific stock number or VIN and we will send it in writing so you can compare apples to apples.
Trade-Ins
How do I find out what my trade-in is worth?
Use the Value Your Trade tool on our website for an instant estimate based on your year, make, model, mileage and condition. That number is a starting point — a firm offer requires a short in-person appraisal, since condition, tires, service history, accident history and current local demand all move the value. Appraisals are free and take about 15–20 minutes.
Can I trade in a vehicle I still owe money on?
Yes. If you still have a loan, we obtain your 10-day payoff amount from your lender and pay the loan off directly as part of the transaction. If your vehicle is worth more than you owe, that positive equity goes toward your down payment. If you owe more than it is worth — negative equity — the difference can often be rolled into the new financing, though that raises your loan amount and payment. We will show you both scenarios side by side before you commit.
Does trading in a car lower my sales tax in Florida?
Yes. Florida allows a trade-in credit: when you trade a vehicle in as part of the same transaction, sales tax is calculated on the difference between the new vehicle's price and your trade-in allowance, not on the full price. On a $40,000 vehicle with a $15,000 trade, you are taxed on $25,000 — a savings of roughly $900 in state tax. This is one of the most commonly overlooked reasons to trade in rather than sell privately.
Financing & Credit
What credit score do I need to buy a car?
There is no single cutoff. Lenders look at your credit history, income, debt-to-income ratio, down payment and the vehicle itself, and different lenders approve different tiers. Higher scores generally earn lower rates, but we work with a network of banks and credit unions that finance a wide range of credit profiles — including first-time buyers and customers rebuilding credit. The fastest way to find out where you stand is to submit our secure online credit application.
Should I lease or finance my Mazda?
Leasing usually means a lower monthly payment, a lower down payment, and driving a vehicle that stays under factory warranty — but you have mileage limits, wear-and-tear standards, and no equity at the end. Financing means higher payments and no mileage cap, and you own the vehicle outright once it is paid off. Leasing tends to suit people who drive predictable annual mileage and like a new car every three years; financing tends to suit people who keep vehicles a long time or drive a lot of miles. Our finance team will run both structures on the same vehicle so you can compare real numbers.
Can I use my own bank or credit union financing?
Absolutely. Bring your approval or a draft from your bank or credit union and we will work with it. We will also ask for a chance to beat the rate through our lender network — sometimes we can, and manufacturer-subsidized rates through Mazda Financial Services are frequently lower than outside financing. There is no obligation either way.
Service & Maintenance
Do I need an appointment for service, or can I walk in?
We recommend scheduling an appointment — you can book online through Schedule Service or call our service department at 855-836-5948. Appointments guarantee a technician and a bay are reserved for you and dramatically reduce your wait. We do accept walk-ins for quick services such as oil changes when capacity allows, but wait times vary by day and time, with mid-week mornings typically the fastest.
How often does my Mazda need an oil change?
Modern Mazdas use a maintenance monitor that turns on a wrench indicator in the instrument cluster when service is due. Under Mazda's normal-conditions schedule, engine oil and filter are replaced when that indicator illuminates, and no later than every 12 months or 7,500 miles. Under Mazda's severe-conditions schedule, the interval is every 6 months or 5,000 miles. Southwest Florida driving frequently meets Mazda's severe-conditions definition — extremely hot conditions and repeated short trips are both listed triggers — so many local owners follow the shorter interval. Tire rotation follows the same interval as the oil change. Always confirm against the maintenance schedule for your specific model year.
Do I have to service my Mazda at the dealership to keep my warranty valid?
No. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer or dealer cannot void your warranty simply because routine maintenance or repairs were performed elsewhere, or because an aftermarket part was used. What you do need to do is perform the required scheduled maintenance on time and keep your records and receipts. That said, warranty repairs themselves must be performed by an authorized Mazda dealer, and our factory-trained technicians and Genuine Mazda Parts are built to Mazda's specifications — which is why many owners choose to service with us.
How do I find out if my vehicle has an open recall?
Give our service department your 17-digit VIN and we will check for open Mazda recalls and service campaigns. You can also look it up yourself using the VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup tool or through Mazda's owner site. Recall repairs are performed at no charge to you, and we are an authorized Mazda dealer, so we can complete them here.
What is Mazda Full Circle Service?
Mazda Full Circle Service is Mazda's no-surprises approach to maintenance. At every visit, your vehicle receives a complimentary multi-point inspection and you get an easy-to-read report card that color-codes each item: green means no significant wear, yellow means an item is wearing but is unlikely to fail before your next scheduled service, and red means it needs attention now. You see exactly what your vehicle needs today, what to plan for, and what is fine — before any work is authorized.
Parts & Accessories
Do you sell Genuine Mazda Parts, and can you order a part you do not stock?
Yes on both. Our parts department stocks Genuine Mazda Parts — filters, brakes, batteries, wiper blades, belts, fluids and more — and we can special-order anything we do not have on the shelf, usually within a few business days. Genuine parts are engineered to your vehicle's original specifications and carry a Mazda parts warranty. Reach the parts department at 239-323-7822.
What accessories are available for my Mazda?
Mazda offers a wide range of Genuine Accessories by model, including all-weather floor mats and cargo trays, roof rack crossbars and carriers, tow hitches, splash guards, illuminated door sills, remote start and interior trim upgrades. Accessories can be installed by our technicians and, in many cases, financed as part of your vehicle purchase. Tell us your model year and trim and we will confirm exactly what fits.
Warranty & Certified Pre-Owned
What does the Mazda New Vehicle Limited Warranty cover?
Every new Mazda comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, whichever comes first. Coverage also includes 5 years of unlimited-mileage anti-perforation (rust-through) protection, a 5-year/60,000-mile safety restraint warranty, and 24-hour Emergency Roadside Assistance for 3 years/36,000 miles — extended through 5 years/60,000 miles for powertrain-related failures. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid high-voltage batteries carry longer coverage. Terms vary by model year and by state, so please review the warranty booklet for your specific vehicle.
What does Mazda Certified Pre-Owned actually include?
A Mazda Certified Pre-Owned vehicle is a late-model, low-mileage Mazda that has passed a 160-point inspection performed by factory-trained Mazda technicians. Certification includes a 12-month/12,000-mile CPO limited warranty with no deductible, a 7-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty measured from the vehicle's original in-service date, 24-hour roadside assistance for the powertrain warranty term, and a CARFAX Vehicle History Report. Coverage is fully transferable at no cost if you sell the vehicle. Ask us which vehicles in our pre-owned inventory are currently Mazda Certified.
Mazda Vehicle Questions
What is the difference between the CX-30, CX-5 and CX-50?
All three are compact crossovers, but they are aimed at different buyers. The CX-30 is the smallest and most city-friendly, built on the Mazda3 platform, easiest to park and the least expensive to run. The CX-5 is the traditional compact SUV — the volume seller, with a comfortable ride, a premium interior and the most balanced size-to-space ratio. The CX-50 is wider and lower-slung with a more rugged, outdoor-oriented design, more cargo room, standard all-wheel drive and available hybrid power. If you mostly drive around town, look at the CX-30; if you want the all-around family SUV, the CX-5; if you want cargo capability, roof-rack adventure gear or a hybrid, the CX-50.
Does the Mazda CX-90 have a third row, and how far does the CX-90 PHEV go on electricity?
Yes — the CX-90 is Mazda's three-row midsize SUV, seating six, seven or eight depending on trim, with a second-row bench or captain's chairs. The CX-90 PHEV is a plug-in hybrid seating seven that Mazda rates at roughly 27 miles of electric-only driving and about 500 miles of total range on a full charge and a full tank. It charges on a standard household outlet overnight, or in about an hour and a half to 80 percent on a Level 2 charger. For many Fort Myers drivers, daily errands and commutes fall entirely within the electric range, with gas power available for longer trips.
Are Mazdas reliable and expensive to maintain?
Mazda consistently ranks near the top of major third-party reliability studies, alongside brands like Toyota and Lexus. Routine maintenance costs are comparable to other mainstream Japanese brands — the scheduled services are conventional oil and filter changes, tire rotations, filters, brakes and fluids. The largest cost variable is usually how closely the maintenance schedule is followed, which is why Florida's heat and the resulting severe-service interval matter. Prepaid maintenance plans are one way to fix that cost in advance.
What is Skyactiv, and what does i-Activ AWD do?
Skyactiv is Mazda's engineering philosophy applied across the engine, transmission, chassis and body. Skyactiv-G gasoline engines use unusually high compression ratios to extract more energy from each unit of fuel, which is how Mazda delivers strong low-end torque and good fuel economy without a small, strained engine. i-Activ AWD is Mazda's predictive all-wheel-drive system: instead of waiting for a wheel to slip, it continuously reads vehicle and environmental sensor data to anticipate traction loss and shift torque before it happens — useful in Florida's sudden downpours and standing water. Availability varies by model and trim, so check the specific vehicle you are considering.
